The Om Home: Custom Closet Makeover + Organization Tour
After several months of feeling frustrated with the disorganized chaos in my closet, I finally bit the bullet and invested in a custom closet system via the Container Store. We went with the Elfa System. This is not sponsored, though I shamelessly wish it was, haha. While Andrew and I have separate closets that are identical in size, we each have different needs. A’s closet was meeting his current needs, and mine was not. So, here we are!
Peep the video above to see the process, full reveal, backstory, and how much it cost. It ended up costing a bit more than I thought it would after we added on the wooden trims + more shelving. But, at the end of the day, it was definitely worth it.
BEFORE
My old closet made it difficult to store long dresses, jumpsuits, shoes, bags, hats, etc. There was a lot of wasted wall space, as you can see from the photo. I also inherited a few designer bags from my grandmother, and I didn’t feel good about storing them in the bins all squished on top of the other. I didn’t even know what I had stored in these bins, because I rarely dug through to the bottom. My long dresses covered up half of the shelving on the left side, which made it difficult to access anything behind it. Overall, it quickly became a big ole pain point for me.
I woke up one morning and decided it was time. So, I marched my way over to the Container Store with my closet’s measurements and worked with one of the guys there to custom design my closet. The entire process was rather quick n’ easy… it took about one hour in-store, and then we scheduled the appointment for their team to come out a few days later. They took down our old closet shelving, repainted the wall, and installed the Elfa! You can also just order it and install it yourself, but we decided to just let them do it all.
AFTER
With this new system in place, the entire closet space has been maximized. I can now easily access and clearly see what I have, allowing me to get the most out of my clothing and my closet. Investing in organization has been a game-changing transformation that has given me so much peace of mind… which is priceless. Since we own this house, we feel really good about investing in systems that will make our lives easier. We have a few more closets in the house, and after seeing this result, we are looking forward to installing more systems in the future. But, we’re in no rush!
